Paris The City of Love and Lights

In grade 7 our teacher asked us to make a list of places we wanted to visit in our lifetime. I wrote Paris at the top because I saw a picture of one of my relatives in front of the Eiffel Tower who had the opportunity to visit this picturesque place. I didn't even know where is Paris back then. Today after almost 10 years I am living in the city of love and lights. I have finally fulfilled the dream of 7th-grade me. In this article, I have made a list of reasons that will compel you to visit this marvelous city.

Why is Paris called the city of Love and Lights?

Being a fan of rom coms, I have seen Paris in various movies and shows. Emily in Paris was one of the recent shows that was shot here. While watching it I couldn’t help but wonder does this place actually has the magic that can make any person fall in love. Well after watching the few seasons of the show and countless proposals in front of the Eiffel Tower and living here for over a year now  I think the answer to this question is yes, this place is definitely the city of love.

Now you might be wondering what’s the deal with lights. Well during the Age of Enlightenment Paris was the center for intellectuals. Many new ideas and new ways of thinking started to flourish from here. This gave it the nickname ‘City of Lights’. A metaphor for the Enlightenment. Another reason behind this name is that this city was the first European city to use street lights for the first time. They illuminated the whole city quite literally.

Places to Visit

From roaming aimlessly in the streets to attending fashion week, you can do everything in Paris. As mentioned prior, I am obsessed with this city and I have made a list of the best places to visit in Paris. Here are my personal favorites.

Eiffel Tower

Almost every other person has heard about the Eiffel Tower. Built in 1889 by Gustave Eiffel, this tower is one of the top attractions in the World. Around 7 million people visit this place every year. If you want to one of them visit tripplannerpk.com to book your tickets right away.

One of the questions asked by people who are planning to go there is how tall is Eiffel Tower. Well, it is 300 meters tall and has remained the tallest building in the world for around 40 years. Currently, people associate this venue with love because countless people have proposed to their partners at this location. But if you are a solo traveler and think that visiting this place may make you feel lonely worry not. There are two restaurants situated in  Paris Eiffel Tower that you can visit and fall in love with the food. So make sure to visit this French monument during your time there.

The Louvre

The Louver is a national art museum in Paris. It is located inside a royal castle also called the Louvre. The art collection of this museum is the richest in the world. You will find antiquities, paintings, and sculptures from different cultures and civilizations of the world.

The total length of the museum is 2 miles but it will take you a lot more time to see all the artifacts. We advise you to go to the section you are particularly interested in. Entry fee to this world of wonders is €12 and opening time is 9:00 am.

Palace of Versailles

If you want to see how French royalty used to live you must visit the Palace of Versailles. With the 2,300 rooms, an amazing display of artwork, and magnificent gardens, the beauty of this place is hard to ignore.
If you are in the city dedicate a day to exploring this picturesque palace. If you have limited time you can simply visit the Garden, Queen’s Chamber, Hall of Mirrors, and the Grand Trianon. The palace opens for the general public at 9:00 am.

Notre Dame Cathedral

This catholic cathedral is known for its gothic style architecture. Several artifacts that are centuries old can also be found in the cathedral. If you are a history enthusiast or just want to visit and explore different architectural styles then this place is perfect for you. Opening hours are 8:00 am to 6:45 pm.

Arc De Triomphe

If you are still wondering what to do in Paris, you better visit Arc De Triomphe. It was built in the 19th century and was once the tallest triumphal arch. It was built to honor the imperial army. This place attracts many visitors due to its unique architecture. The carvings on the pillars and views from the terrace are to die for.
If you want to enter you must pay a ticket fee which is € 8. Opening hours are from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm. Take out time from your trip to visit this beautiful arch.

Wine and Dine

When you hear the word Paris, among other things baguettes and croissants come to your mind. The city is home to the most beautiful cafes and restaurants in the world. At every corner, you will find a coffee shop.

My research suggests that every tourist should try crepes, macaroons, Chocolate éclairs, onion soup, and coq au vin. As far as eateries are concerned some of the top-rated places include Tracé Restaurant, Au Pied de Cochon, and L'Épicerie du Breizh Café. However, if you are on a budget visit Bistrot mee, galerna, Le Blainville, and Mama Kossa.

Travel tips

  1. Check the weather prior to planning a trip- Trips are amazing when planned at the right time of the year since the weather of the destination can actually make or break your holiday. Paris weather during summer is pleasant and breezy but winters are quite cold and windy. I will suggest you visit here in summer.
  2.  Apply for a visa timely- Getting a tourist visa is a little tricky but applying on time and submitting all your documents can help you a lot.
  3. Clothing- If you are visiting in summer pack lightweight clothes but for winter you need to take out your best coats. Street fashion here is quite extravagant so keep that in mind while packing
  4. Use public transportation- If you want to save money, you must learn to use the metro in Paris, or else you will end up spending all your money on taxis.

  5. Eat like Locals- A vacation is incomplete without splurging and relishing the country’s food so explore as many food places as you can.
